Farhad Hussain
Farhad Hussain is an artist who hails from Jamshedpur in present day Jharkhand. He studied art at two of India’s most prestigious institutions for art with accreditations from both - a BFA from Shantiniketan, Kolkata and an MFA from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Baroda. These foundational years of his artistic journey helped him in understanding theory and the wielding of technique in service to his chosen medium. Since art is a true though concealed reflection of life, he opted to study the big subject of human relationships in order to explore its subtleties and complexities through his various mediums. The images that populate his canvas come from those he confronts in his daily life – ordinary people and situations that offer him the opportunity to formulate visually telling narratives to build his unique repertoire.

Their messages are not always straightforward and come layered with nuances that include humor and sarcasm, which serve both as commentary and critique depending on theme and context. Though his compositions may seem intricate and diverse in its choice of subjects and elements they are all connected through common strands that make up a particular story. These visual tales are told through a vibrant splash of colors and unusual embellishments such as patterning with textiles. His versatility also sees him incorporating miniature paintings, in particular those from the renowned Kalighat genre, Japanese prints and even images taken from mass media in unusual and striking ways that lend his style a distinctiveness all its own.

Farhad Hussain has exhibited extensively as an individual artist. He has also participated in groups shows in India and abroad that have been well received.
